Clouds of Unknowing is a monthly newsletter by @original_chills, mining the present for unserious sermons, other worlds, and little rituals.
The Logbook
Much as I like to imagine that I am impervious to Big Moods, English winter lockdown has been decidedly unfun. Anecdotally, it seems that most people have found this one tough.
That said, I enjoyed the novelty of snowy and frozen London (see photo above), and as we collectively defrosted I began to crawl out of my hibernation cave and get interested in things again.
I have an intention to at least get this newsletter out regularly, if not frequently, and I’ve settled on monthly as the best way to balance those two. Things are still germinating at the moment, but by next month I’ll hopefully have found a theme for this ‘second season’ of Clouds.
Getting my writing flywheels up and running again is where I’m at for now, keeping a commonplace for what I’m reading/watching/listening to, and putting it up on tumblr for a bit of light accountability.
Until next time - keep it unreal.
Recent content of note:
Adam Curtis’ ever mind-bending Can’t Get You Out of My Head on BBC iPlayer, enjoyed polishing off Philip K. Dick’s VALIS after many months on/off, and have been listening to this absolute stomper of a tune from Jossy Mitsu’s debut EP on repeat.
I also put out a mix of various kinds of broken beat music, praise be to pitch lock.
The starting point for this newsletter was the Oneohtrix Point Never track below: I could try to explain why, but your ears will have their own ideas.
